About Kurt Lawton...

Kurt is an award-winning writer, photographer and editorial/
marketing
strategist, who has honed these crafts for 25+ years.
Raised on an Iowa corn/soybean/livestock farm, he earned a
BS degree in Agricultural Journalism at Iowa State University in 1980.

Magazine experience
Magazine experience includes eight years as managing editor,
senior editor and editor of
Farm Industry News magazine --
where he built on its new product, technology and buying beat.

The magazine earned numerous writing, photography and
design awards. His guidance also helped earn "favorite
magazine" status over all farm publications, according to
an independent farmer-reader survey.

Lawton also parlayed his homeowner Do-It-Yourself expertise
into a two-year stint as associate editor of
The Family Handyman
magazine. He wrote feature stories, a monthly "Ask Handyman"
mailbag column, and created a new "mystery problem" photo
contest to improve reader interaction with the magazine.

Lawton's e-commerce and retailer savvy earned him a monthly
column on that topic for
Ag Retailer magazine.

Website experience
Website experience includes a two-year launch of editorial
content at start-up Rooster.com. Lawton built exclusive and
branded content to enhance traffic and monetize products on
this agricultural portal and retailer Websites.

Rooster.com achieved the highest traffic of all agricultural Websites in
one year -- and stellar content helped grow the registered user base
from 17,000 to 30,000 thanks to a weekly e-newsletter, which
achieved industry-leading open and click-through rates.

Lawton's Rooster.com achievements earned him contract work as
editorial director of two Syngenta Crop Protection Websites --
FarmAssist.com and FarmAssistAdvantage.com. Work included daily
content and bi-monthly e-newsletters for Midwest corn, soybean and
small grain farmers.

Marketing communications experience
Marketing communications experience was honed during
a dozen years work at several leading Midwest agencies. He helped
a variety of seed, crop protection, livestock and machinery
companies communicate to farmers, dealers, investors, consumers
and other gatekeepers.

Work included strategic product marketing and promotion plans,
product publicity, issues management, corporate communications,
speeches, videos, crisis communications, issue management
seminars, editorial conferences and more.
